Sassafras Class Tugs
The Sassafras Class tugboats represent the newest additions to our Vane Brothers fleet. Built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding of Salisbury, Maryland, the Sassafras Class vessels are dedicated to our 30,000-barrel barges.
These new 3,000 horsepower tugs are nearly identical in design and hull form. Powered by two Caterpillar diesel engines, they are equipped with a single drum hydraulic winch built by JonRie of New Jersey. The coastwise towing vessels measure 90’ long, 32’ wide, with a 13’ hull depth. Marine interior and master craftsman, Raymond Marcotti of Thibodaux, Louisiana, completed the interior design. Each vessel provides comfortable accommodations for seven crewmembers.
