Charles Burton

Built in Escatawpa, Mississippi in 1967, Vane acquired the 1800 horsepower model-bow tug Charles Burton from Sunoco in 1997.  She is 195 gross tons, and measures 100’ long, 28’ abeam, and 13’ deep.  The Charles Burton operates primarily in the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays, as well as the Ports of Norfolk, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York.  She is named for Charles "Charley" Burton Hughes, the youngest son of company president C. Duff Hughes.

The Charles Burton is seen here passing beneath the Walt Whitman Bridge in Philadelphia.
