Mitzie Hughes

The towboat Mitzie Hughes was built in 1973 at the Terrebonne Shipyard in Houma, Louisiana.  She is an 800 horsepower, twin screw towboat.  During her career with Vane, she moved oil barges on the intercoastal waterways and Chesapeake Bay, as well as the Ports of Virginia and Baltimore. She is named for Karen "Mitzie" Greenwood Hughes, wife of company president C. Duff Hughes. The Mitzie Hughes was sold to Potomac Constructors, LLC of Oxon Hill, MD, in 2005.

She is seen here on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia passing beneath the Beltline Railroad Bridge.
