Wicomico
The tug Wicomico is the third in a line of Patapsco-class tugs. She was designed by Frank Basile of Entech & Associates and built by Thoma-Sea in Houma, Louisiana. The Wicomico is 95’ long, 34’ abeam, and 15’ deep. Her gross tonnage is 99 tons. She is powered by two CAT 3516, 2100 horsepower diesel engines with Kort nozzles, and maintains running speeds of better than 12 knots. Featuring a model bow and square stern, her fuel capacity is approximately 90,000 gallons. Potable water capacity is approximately 9,000 gallons. With accommodations for seven crew members, the Wicomico is dedicated to the 50-class tank barges on the coastwise trade.
Tug Wicomico joined the fleet in January 2006. Her maiden voyage saw two newly built 30-class barges from Port Arthur, Texas through the Gulf of Mexico and into the North Atlantic, a ten-day mid-winter’s voyage. The following spring, the Wicomico was named one of the “top new American tugs” by American Tugboat Review, an annual publication of Professional Mariner.
