Built in 1981 at Coden, Alabama, The Captain Russi is 63 feet long, has a beam of 24 feet, and a draft of 7.5 feet. Her distinctive raised pilot house is especially helpful in pushing high-sided light tank barges. She is powered by twin propulsion Detroit 12 V 71 800 horsepower engines and accommodates a crew of five. She is named for Captain Russi Makujina, who joined Vane Brothers in 1972 and has served as Port Captain and is now our Nautical Operations Consultant.
The Captain Russi is seen here at the Whitbread Parade in the Inner Harbor, Baltimore.
