The Charles Hughes

Charles Hughes passing through the Chesapeake and Delaware canal at Chesapeake City, Maryland.

The tugboat
Charles Hughes, built in LaRose, Louisiana in 1975, is seen pushing a barge containing over a million gallons of gasoline en route to Baltimore. The 75-foot long, 2,000 horsepower tug is powered by twin GM diesel engines. She tows Vane Brothers fuel barges for service between the ports of Baltimore and Philadelphia. She is named in honor of Charles F. Hughes, Jr., Chairman of The Vane Brothers Company.
