All newly hired fleet crew must go through an evaluation or training period. The length of the program varies and is based upon qualifications, experience, and supervisor approval.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
ALL FLEET CREW POSITIONS require a Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC), Transportation Worker ID Card (TWIC), and medical certificate.

Also required for each specific position:

CAPTAIN & MATE [Mate Eval]
-U.S. Coast Guard 200, 500 or 1600 Ton License (either Near Coastal or Oceans, depending on the area of operation)
-Master or Mate of Towing with STCW endorsement
-A Captain or Mate is considered trained for the occupation with between 2 years and 10 years of experience.

MATE TRAINEE
-USCG 200, 500, or 1600 Ton License (either Near Coastal or Oceans, depending on the area of operation)
-Master or Mate of Towing with STCW endorsement

-Prior experience preferred.

APPRENTICE MATE (Steersman)
-USCG 200, 500, or 1600 Ton License (either Near Coastal or Oceans, depending on the area of operation)

ENGINEER
-Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) unlimited; Assistant Engineer-1st, 2nd or 3rd; or Chief Engineer unlimited license, with STCW endorsement
-Horsepower (HP) Horsepower license of 1,000-4,000 or greater
-An Engineer is considered trained for the occupation with between 4 years and 10 years of experience; includes vocational education, apprenticeship, and on-the-job.

BARGE CAPTAIN & TANKERMAN
-Person-in-Charge (PIC) Tank - Dangerous Liquids  (DL) endorsement.
-Bunkering experience preferred.
-A Tankerman is considered trained for the occupation with between 6 months and 12 months of experience; includes vocational education, apprenticeship, and on-the-job.
