TUGS, COAST GUARD AND PILOTS PULL TOGETHER FOR PORT FEST

During Port Fest 2015 in October, 60 high school students from the Baltimore area took advantage of a hands-on opportunity to learn about the duties performed by tugboat operators, Coast Guard personnel and Chesapeake Bay pilots. A daylong event at Vane Brothers’ Baltimore headquarters featured tours of boats, marine safety demonstrations and fun activities such as a line-tossing contest.

Along with Vane, other participating companies and organizations that pulled together for the educational event included McAllister Towing of Baltimore, Moran Baltimore, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Baltimore and the Association of Maryland Pilots.

Schools represented were the Maritime Industries Academy, New Era Academy and North County High School.
